What is the Hash Check Service?
Every child has the right to protection against sexual abuse, both offline and online. Together with hosting providers, we want to improve the online protection of children. That is why a technical tool has been built to prevent the uploading of known material of sexual abuse of children.
Free software is available to every hosting provider via Meldpunt Kinderporno in the form of an API (Application Programming Interface). This allows the hosting provider to voluntarily check whether material uploaded to their platforms appears in the database with hashes of known images of sexual abuse of minors. Hosting providers can then take appropriate action.

How does it work?
The Hash Check Service is a technical tool that checks images for punishable hashes. Every photo or video has a unique digital fingerprint, a so-called hash. Meldpunt Kinderporno has the hash lists of several instutions, for example that of the Dutch National Police.
These hash lists come from databases of known and verified child victims of sexual abuse.
